Curly hair can be a challenge at the best of times, its often to curly, to dry,to frizzy to corse and to hard to do, so often spends its life in a bun, not to mention Humidity as well.
Well heres a few pointers that I hope will help.
Tip 1 – Should I brush my hair?
Yes you should. The best and really the only time to brush your curls is just before you wash it. If you have curly hair you know why. Its because when you brush curls it looks like you’ve stuck your finger in a power socket, fuzzes out and doubles in size.
Use a good cushion brush with natural bristles, though if your hair is thick and curl strong synthetic bristles will go though your hair more easily.
Giving it a good brush stimulates the scalp and the hair follicle while removing dead skin cells and dry scalp. It also spreads natural oils and gets all those knots out that can so quickly become dreadlocks.
Tip 2 – Cleaning your hair
Use a good quality Shampoo and Conditioner. It is the best foundation for your hair.
We recommend Eleven Hydrate shampoo and conditioner or bHave Rescue shampoo and conditioner. These treatments are beautiful rich and moisturising, nourishing and hydrating on those curls.
Tip 3 – Styling.
Most curls do better with a little help to keep them under control, less frizzy and a little more separated.
For those of us that prefer the natural feel we recommend following up your Eleven Shampoo and conditioner with Eleven Miracle Hair Treatment or bHave Riot Oil as the basis of your blow-dry or straightening process and use Eleven Frizz control cream and serum and shine spray to finish. They don’t make hair oily as they go into the hair shaft, working from the inside out (the only time it will make you oily is if you’re using far to much).
In some cases a good leave-in cream based conditioner and weekly moisture treatment will go a long way to helping fight against dry split ends as well.
Follow up with Keep My Curl Defining Cream, it gives extra styling control but still leaves your hair soft. It will not go sticky and tacky like mousse can!
For sassy beach curls a Sea Salt spray like Eleven Sea Salt Texture Spray is a must. Sea salt sprays naturally enhance your curls.
Have you ever noticed when you spend time at the beach how much curlier your hair becomes? it the same principle put into a bottle without the drying side effects.
Generally speaking the more moisture or hydration you can keep in your curl the better the curl will be.
And last but not least a little serum can smooth down any flyaway fluffy pieces of hair.
Tip 4 – Supplements
If your hair falls into the category of corse and dry? Try taking fish oil/krill oil or coconut oil as it helps to soften the hair. (Please talk to your doctor beforehand as to not interfere with other medications you might be taking.)
Tip 5 – Cutting
Regular small trims, having small regular trims keeps split ends at bay while allowing your hair to grow longer. The longer you leave between cuts the more you’ll need cut off. this inevatbly feels like your hair is not growing. As soon as your brush starts catching its time for a trim.
For those of you who’d like to straighten your hair more, please look under Smoothing Curly Hair.
